Gimmel Machane

8/8/2011 - Chanichim enjoyed a beautiful Shevet Na’aleh Shabbat on Gimmel Machane with great ruach, singing and dancing. Rav Ilan Goldman joined chanichim for an interesting Question and Answer session. Chanichim were also joined by members of the Bet Midrash programme who ran a tochnit on the Parashat HaShavua. Shabbat ended with a Rebbe’s Tisch style Seudah Shlishit led by the Barroner Rebbe. On Motzai Shabbat, chanichim took part in a lifesize game of Settlers of Catan/Denbigh. On Sunday, chanichim continued learning about the facets of Bnei Akiva by looking at Avodah. In a tochnit looking at Bnei Akiva’s work with agriculture and building the land of Israel there was a special guest appearance from a local tractor. Chanichim also began their preparation for Machlakot, a three-day hike which begins on Wednesday. In a Kiddush Hashem tochnit, chanichim filmed videos for YouTube to be used as a Kiddush Hashem (keep an eye out!). There was also a Technical Tochnit where chanichim learnt how to use all the equipment they’ll need for Machlakot such as the tents and gas stoves. Last night chanichim went head to head in a Romance-themed Supper Quiz!
Today, chanichim looked at the final facet of Bnei Akiva’s ideology Aliyah which included a peulah run by the Israeli chanichim who have joined the machane. Gimmel were also joined by Yachad machane who joined chanichim for an Inter-Sviva challenges tochnit where chanichim from Yachad joined Gimmel chanichim from their own area against teams from other svivot. Tonight, following the Seudah HaMafseket, the fast will be brought in with Ma’ariv and the reading of Megillat Eicha and Kinot.
5/8/2011 – Gimmel Machane spent yesterday learning about Bnei Akiva. Chanichim looked at specific aspects of BA’s ideology as well as it’s history. There ws a ‘BA Through the Ages’ tochnit where chanichim looked at how Bnei Akiva differed in different ages and how it looked in the past and will look in the future. Chanichim also had a special Hadracha Tochnit introducing them to the skills they will need to be madrichim at our svivot from October.
Today, the theme of the day is ‘Torah’, beginning a series of days on Torah, Avodah and Aliya, three facets of Bnei Akiva’s ideology. Chanichim discussed why ‘Torah’ is the first and foremost principle of Bnei Akiva’s ideology. Click here to read more about Bnei Akiva’s ideology. There will be a final opportunity to get messy at a huge messy tochnit before showers and preparing for the chanichim’s first Shabbat in Caerwys.
3/8/2011 – Gimmel began machane and their journey through the ideology of Bnei Akiva by looking at what exactly an ideology is. Chanichim were introduced to the idea of having an ideology and how what one is passionate about impacts on their life. One of the ways they saw this was through a tochnit where they had to act out a day in the life of machane for various ‘Isms’ seeing how machane would be for those ideologies finishing with, of course, a day in the life of a Bnei Akiva machane. Also, as hopefully many, if not all, of the Gimmel chanichim will be on Israel Machane next Summer, they got to take part in an Olympics Tochnit giving them a taste of what they will miss in 2012. There was also a Jungle themed Boys vs Girls Tochnit.
Today, chanichim looked at the power of youth and how young people can make an impact on the world. For Bnei Akiva, they looked at why the movement is called BNEI Akiva (Children of Akiva) and not just TALMIDEI Akiva (Students of Akiva). Chanichim also participated in a tochnit that helped them get to know the group of Israeli chanichim who are joining machane with various activites relating to Israel. As part of the tochnit, one of the Israeli chanichim spoke about their life in Israel. Tonight there will be always much-anticipated Colour War tochnit that will take place the whole evening.
